Humbled and Awed...Thanks, Discovery Channel

I recently purchased "When We Left Earth" for my iPod, a Discovery Channel series that documents the NASA space program from its very beginnings up through the present day. Every since I was a kid in elementary school, I have been fascinated by the space program and especially the space shuttle, so naturally I found this documentary simply riveting.

If you have ever seen the Hollywood movies "The Right Stuff" and "Apollo 13" you are used to seeing "stock" footage that has been public for many years. However, with WWLE, every episode featured never-before-seen footage of astronaut training, launches, and in-flight video that was simply amazing.

While I expected to see and learn many new things through this documentary, I never even considered that this program might impact me spiritually--- but it surely did. As I watched those brave men and women ride their capsules, man-made modules, and shuttles out into space, I couldn't help but be awe-struck with the majesty of the universe, and the almighty power of God behind it. Surely the Psalmist was right when he wrote in Psalm 19:1 NASB "The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands."

When I saw that famous footage known as "earthrise", I simply could not help but be humbled that out of all the billions of stars and untold galaxies that were formed by God's hand--- His greatest concern is for Earth, and His greatest love is reserved for His own precious people that inhabit it. "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?" (Ps. 8:3-4)

Humbled and awed. Thanks, Discovery Channel.
