Alive and Kicking

One of the best and surest ways to kill your blog is to stop posting on it for a lengthy period of time.  Let me assure you that I'm not trying to kill this blog-- I've just been extraordinarily busy over the last three weeks.  It's been all I can do just to get my regular work accomplished and a good night's sleep-- let alone a blog post.

In addition to my regular preaching duties, this semester I took a class at Baptist Bible Seminary on "Ephesians" with Dr. Gary Gromacki.  It was a fantastic class-- great to dig into the depths of one of the best of Paul' epistles.  The hard part was reading over 1,200 pages from class notes and textbooks-- and having to write two scholarly, single-spaced term papers-- both due a week apart.  My first paper was on "Strength for Spiritual Battle" - an exegetical look at Eph. 6:10-12; my second paper was "Pictures that Proclaim: Metaphors of the Church in Ephesians".  I got an "A" on the first paper--- waiting to hear the news on the second paper.  Any classes I take in Seminary now push my ever closer toward my Doctor of Ministry degree.

On the days I wasn't preparing for a SERMON, writing a TERM PAPER, or concluding my 1,200 page requirement--- I was coaching the Immanuel Christian School varsity basketball team.  We have at least one win this year--- a knock-out, drag-out, heavyweight slug-fest which we won on the road in Sunbury.  Another game tomorrow night away at Columbia County Christian School, where we're looking for revenge from an earlier beat-down.

Apparently, I did a good enough job that they've asked me to return and record some new segments to appear on-air next week.  I'm supposed to make a trek up to the station tomorrow to record....which means I'm back on writing duty today.  Hopefully things will go smoothly-- because I've still got to prepare for 3 sermons this week (one Wednesday and two Sunday) and an adult Sunday School class lesson on Acts.  Oh yeah--- Christmas has to fit in there too.

Tonight Heather and I have a date night planned where we get to conclude all our Christmas shopping, so I'm looking forward to that.  With the age of our boys right now, we are in that special season of life when Christmas is filled with wonder and magic.  Our 4 year old Seth has been singing Christmas songs outloud for two weeks now-- and its adorable.  Really looking forward to Christmas Day-- which we will celebrate this year in Maryland.  (If they can dig us out a parking spot after the blizzard).

Merry Christmas everyone.  May the Lord Jesus Christ be the center of your celebration!

Hey Pastor... love your blog! I used to serve the Lutheran church in Nuremberg, PA and now serve two churches in NWPA. My son and daughter both attended HS in Hazleton. Blessing to you and yours for the Christmas season.
