On My Desk and Nightstand...

I wanted to post a short update today about the good books that I've been enjoying the last few weeks.  If you're looking for something to inform your mind or stir your soul, here are a few recommendations.

1. A Heart Set Free, The Life of Charles Wesley by Arnold Dallimore.   Most of us know that Charles Wesley was an extraordinary hymn-writer, who penned thousands and thousands of lyrics that continue to edify the church today.  What you may not know was that Wesley was also a powerful preacher who led many people to the Savior.  He was a remarkable man, and a worthy "third" to the two leaders of early Methodism--- George Whitefield and John Wesley.

2. Winning with People by John C. Maxwell.  I always enjoy John's material, and over the years he has helped me become a better leader and pastor.  This book highlights twenty-five principles that can help you have success with people--- no matter who you are.

3.  The Truth War by John MacArthur.  In a postmodern culture, anything and everything goes--- because truth is whatever you want it to be.  Unfortunately, postmodernism has slowly but surely been infiltrating the church, and many churches are being drawn away from "the faith once for all delivered to the saints".  In this book, John MacArthur outlines the "truth war" happening all around us, especially in modern America, and shows how Christians need to stand up and defend the faith.
